Back Yard Birds

March Saga #3

In case you are wondering...the thread of the March Sagas is to explain to myself why there has not been much sewing going on.

First came the call from our kids. Their newest  back yard bird is a Great Horned Owl.  And what a beauty! The kids had been hearing and seeing this guy for several days.
We rushed over with the big camera and long lens. Hubby got a few pictures. Then he trained our son-in-law to the camera. I have no idea whose pictures are whose but they are all fantastic. Isn't he a mysterious guy? He seems to dare you to keep watching. Great Horned Owls are common in Arizona - but to have him right in the back yard is pretty exciting.

Ah, the  moon shot!  Good work David!
About this time our owl disappeared. On to better hunting grounds I suppose.

The next back yard bird call was over to our friend's house in Arrowhead. Their back yard backs up to an urban lake with all kinds of water fowl. When they spotted an American Bald Eagle, the photographer got called in.

Oh my gosh....how spectacular is that?!  We imagine that he dropped in from Lake Pleasant for some good fishing.
. What a majestic sight.Look closely and you see that he is banded There are several sites in Arizona that are protected when the eagles are nesting.

Wow! How cool is that! Best to keep the small furries indoors though, when raptors like these are about.

Fantastic photos.

Wow. Never knew Phoenix had eagles. I saw an owl in my next door neighbor's yard a few years ago but never an owl.
