This is the final saga for March - even if it is already April. The kids took us on a great day trip. Lunch was to die for - El Ray in Globe. Ahhhhh the green corn tamale was the lightest, sweetest tamale I've ever tasted.
First stop after lunch was Theodore Roosevelt Dam.
Awesome!
Next stop was Tonto National Monument
I'm only using my own pictures, so no long lens shot of the cliff dwellings.
Next stop, Canyon Lake and a trip aboard The Dolly Steamboat. We took a 90-minute tour of the lake and the amazing rock formations. We saw an American Bald Eagle and her fledgling on the nest.
Here are my two sweet Davids. Hubby and son in law
(who we occasionally call Junior just to keep it straight :)
Final leg of our day trip was the Apache Trail. We hadn't driven this trail for years. Junior had never seen it. (JJ drove so he could hang out the window!) It is a beautiful drive full of hairpin curves. This historic route is about a 2-hour drive. It definitely has some of the prettiest scenery in Arizona.
"The Apache Trail combines the grandeur of the Alps, the Glory of the Rockies, the magnificence of the grand Canyon and then adds an indefinable something that none of the others have, to me, it is the most awe-inspiring and the most sublimely beautiful."
President Theodore Roosevelt 1911
Those kids treated us to a fun filled day!

This is a great trip. Always eat at El Rey when in Globe. Not a fan of Apache Trail, but the round trip is a very nice day out.
